Here's a dandy I wish I new: Christopher Lennox BoydOne of the items I collect are macaroni prints. A close relation to these macaroni prints are Mezzotint prints. With so many produced, some of these prints illuminate upon dandy themes; thus, these prints became a bit of the precursor to the macaroni prints. I came upon Christopher Lennox-Boyd (who was the largest private collector of Mezzotint prints) obituary while researching macaroni prints, and this seems like the sort of guy who fits into our club: "With no necessity to earn his own living, Lennox-Boyd was able to indulge his eclectic tastes throughout his life" "So multifarious were his interests that he once confided to a friend: 'I regret that there are not three of me.' " "For a time he also had a house at Burford in the Cotswolds, where he held a sumptuous 40th birthday party; exactly 40 guests dined on pâté de fois gras (heralded to the table by a trumpeter) and turbot before enjoying a firework display in the garden." "Christopher Lennox-Boyd had many girlfriends over the years, but remained unmarried." If you have a couple of grand to spend, here's a couple of Mezzotint prints:

Another 20th century dandy that I don't think gets his share of notice is Boni de Castellane. A frenchman of title, wit, manners, and looks, he traded in his social advantages to marry for money, wedding to the dull face Anna Gould (the daughter of the great railroad baron, Jay Gould). Their marriage lasted about a decade, with two notes. They divorced after he spent several tens of millions of dollars of her money, with no end in sight. The stories of his wanton spending of her money are legendary, such as remodeling and redecorating any room in his mansion at his whim. Second, after the divorce, he sought an annulment, which went all of the way up the pope, before deciding against him. After the divorce, Anna then married Boni's cousin, Hélie de Talleyrand-Périgord, Duc de Sagan, who was the son of a another famous french dandy, Boson de Talleyrand-Périgord

What about notable 20th century actors and artists as dandies? It's easy to think of Tom Wolfe and Fred Astaire.
